Five Prisoners Hanged on Drug Charges in Iran

Iran Human Rights (Nov 13 2017): A prisoner was executed at Bandar Abbas Central Prison on drug related charges and four were executed at Urmia Central Prison on murder charges.

According to a close source, on the morning of Monday November 13, a prisoner was executed at Bandar Abbas Central Prison. 

The prisoner, identified as Saber Soleimani, 37, was from Takab (a city in and the capital of Takab County, West Azerbaijan Province). 

He was arrested and sentenced to death on the charge of possession and trafficking of 9 kilograms of heroin and 2 kilograms and 700 grams meth in 2014.

This prisoner was hanged while the new anti-narcotics bill will be enforced tomorrow.

Executions in Urmia


Four prisoners were executed in Urmia Central Prison (Darya) on Sunday November 12. 

All of the four prisoners who were sentenced to death on murder charges were transferred to solitary confinement in a group of six on Saturday November 11. 

Two of the prisoners were returned to their cells by either asking for time or winning the consent of the plaintiffs.

The prisoners were identified as Morteza Qolipour, Mehdi Hajizadeh, Qobad Moradi, and Ramin Eshqi.

None of the abovementioned executions have been announced by the state-run media so far.

Another Young Man Executed in Iran as Death Penalty Cases Rise

Prison authorities of the Islamic Republic have executed another young man amid a significant rise in the use of the death penalty. The inmate convicted of murder was executed at Khorramabad Prison on April 5, according to the Norway-based Iran Human Rights Organization. The inmate, identified as 30-year-old Hassan-Ali Mirzania, was reportedly found guilty four years ago of fatally shooting two brothers with a hunting rifle.

Brian Dorsey, 52, is scheduled for execution Tuesday for killing his cousin and her husband at their central Missouri home in 2006. His attorneys are seeking clemency from Gov.
