Iran reportedly executes Kurdish political prisoner

According to unofficial reports Habibollah Golparipour was hanged early this morning.

Iran Human Rights (IHR) had yesterday received reports about the transfer of Mr. Golparipour from the Urmia Prison to an unknown location.

On March 15, 2009, Habibollah Golparipour was sentenced to death by branch 1 of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court (in the Western Azerbaijan province) in a trial that lasted a few minutes.

He was sentenced to death charged with "Enmity against the God" and membership in a Kurdish dissident group".

IHR has issued concern about imminent risk of execution for at least four Sunni Muslim Kurdish prisoners of consience who are currently being held in the Ghezel Hesar Prison (near Tehran).

There is also strong concern that two other death row Kurdish political prisoners Zanyar and Loghman Moradi might be in danger of execution.

All these prisoners have been sentenced by the Revolutionary Courts to death charged with enmity against the God.

All these prisoners have been subjected to torture, forced confessions and sentenced to death by sham trials.

IHR urges the international community to condemn today’s executions and react towards the wave of executions in Iran. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR said: "The silence of the international community sends the wrong signal to the Iranian regime and we are concerned that more prisoners will be executed in the near future. The international community must react now".

Iran sentences popular rapper to death for supporting Mahsa Amini protests

An Iranian court has sentenced to death a popular rapper jailed for more than a year and a half for supporting nationwide protests sparked by Mahsa Amini's death, local media reported Wednesday . "Branch 1 of Isfahan Revolutionary Court sentenced Toomaj Salehi to death on the charge of corruption on Earth," the singer's lawyer Amir Raisian said, quoted by the reformist Shargh newspaper.

PETALING JAYA: Amnesty International Malaysia has commended Malaysia for the abolition of the mandatory death penalty and for imposing a moratorium on the execution of the death sentence, which has led to an overall decrease in the use of the death penalty by the courts. However, the rights group urged the government to extend the moratorium on executions until the death penalty is fully abolished.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Amnesty International on Wednesday criticized Iraqi authorities for carrying out the death sentences of 13 men on the same day, saying the prisoners were denied fair trial, and expressed concern that many others had been executed in secret. Kansas - A judge has denied a request by death-row inmates Jonathan and Reginald Carr to be resentenced in a December 2000 crime spree that included five murders. The Carr brothers filed motions in November requesting a new hearing to determine whether the evidence supports the death penalty. Their lawyers also sought new pre-sentencing reports and journal entries in the case.
