Pakistan: Four more executions

March 31, 2015: four convicts for murder and kidnapping in separate cases were hanged in jails of Attock, Mianwali, Sargodha and Rawalpindi, taking to 64 the number of executions since the country reversed the self-imposed moratorium on the death penalty in December.

Sargodha’s Central Jail witnessed its first ever execution in 105 years since its establishment in 1910. 

Mohammad Riaz was found guilty by an anti-terrorism court for killing two people during a bank robbery in 2000.

Mohammad Ameen, a prisoner convicted of murdering a person on personal enmity in 1998, was sent to the gallows in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.

Another prisoner, Hubdar Shah, convicted of killing two men over a minor dispute in 2000, was hanged in Mianwali’s Central Jail.

Ikram-ul-Haq was.Akramul Haq, accused of kidnapping a 3-year-old girl for ransom in 2002, was hanged in Attock’s Jail.

Iran sentences popular rapper to death for supporting Mahsa Amini protests

An Iranian court has sentenced to death a popular rapper jailed for more than a year and a half for supporting nationwide protests sparked by Mahsa Amini's death, local media reported Wednesday . "Branch 1 of Isfahan Revolutionary Court sentenced Toomaj Salehi to death on the charge of corruption on Earth," the singer's lawyer Amir Raisian said, quoted by the reformist Shargh newspaper.

PETALING JAYA: Amnesty International Malaysia has commended Malaysia for the abolition of the mandatory death penalty and for imposing a moratorium on the execution of the death sentence, which has led to an overall decrease in the use of the death penalty by the courts. However, the rights group urged the government to extend the moratorium on executions until the death penalty is fully abolished.
